Frequently Asked Questions about Freemasonry and Moreton Lodge

At Moreton Lodge, we understand that joining a Masonic Lodge can raise many questions.

Below, we address some of the most common inquiries about Freemasonry, membership, and the activities we offer.

  • What is Freemasonry?

Freemasonry is a fraternal organisation that promotes moral and ethical development, personal growth, and community service. It is built on principles of integrity, respect, and charity.

  • Who can join Moreton Lodge?

    Who can join?

Before you are invited to join we will want to know a little more about you and you will need to confirm your suitability as an honest, law-abiding man of good character.

You must be over 18 and must affirm your belief in a Supreme Being.

You should never be coerced or pressured into joining but a Freemason may nominate you. If you do not know any Freemasons to nominate you, simply fill in our ‘Start a conversation about becoming a Freemason’ form to be considered.

    Lodge Acceptance

Once your application is reviewed and accepted, you will be assigned to a suitable Lodge — in this case, Moreton Lodge.

    Initiation Ceremony

    'The Work'

After initiation, you will enter a structured program of self-development known as ‘the Work’.

Through allegorical rituals and symbolic teachings, you will progress through the stages (or ‘degrees’) of Freemasonry, deepening your understanding at each step.

Throughout your journey, experienced members will mentor and support you as you grow in knowledge, character, and Brotherhood.

    Attendance

Attend Lodge meetings once a month, usually on a Saturday afternoon, for a few hours.

Many Freemasons also choose to give additional time to fundraising, charity work, or other Lodge activities, but this is voluntary.

    Code of Conduct

Conform to a high standard of integrity, dignity, and responsible behaviour, both within and outside the Lodge.

    Annual Fees
